Welcome to Simply Japanese! These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Simply Japanese mobile application ("App"), and any related services provided by Simply Japanese ("Simply Japanese", "we", "us", or "our"). By downloading, accessing, or using our App, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not use our Services.
Simply Japanese is a Japanese language learning service built around short, real-life conversation lessons, with vocabulary decks, flashcard review, pronunciation scoring and an AI conversation partner ("Services"). Pronunciation exercises need access to your device's microphone.
You acknowledge that the conversation partner is an AI and not a human. Its responses, corrections and pronunciation scores are generated automatically and may not always be accurate, appropriate, or reflective of our views.
To use our Services, you may be required to create an account. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information and are responsible for any activity under your account. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account and use the Services.
Some lessons and features require a paid subscription ("Subscription"), offered monthly or yearly, with a free trial where offered. Subscriptions bought in the App are billed by the App Store provider (Apple App Store or Google Play Store) and are governed by its terms.
Auto-Renewal: Your Subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless you turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the period ends. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period.
Free Trials: If you start a free trial, you will be charged when the trial ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends.
Cancellation: You can manage or cancel your Subscription in your App Store account settings. Deleting the App or your account does not cancel a Subscription.
Fee Changes: We may change Subscription prices. Any change takes effect at the start of the next period after you are notified, as handled by the App Store provider.
You agree not to use the Services for any illegal purpose. You agree not to:
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Services for violating these rules.
Your voice recordings and the messages you send to the AI conversation partner ("User Content") remain yours. You grant Simply Japanese a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store and process your User Content only for the purpose of operating and providing the Services, such as scoring your pronunciation and generating replies and corrections.
The Services and all of their original content (excluding User Content), including lessons, audio, illustrations, features, and functionality, are and will remain the exclusive property of Simply Japanese and its licensors, and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App for your personal, non-commercial use in accordance with these Terms.
We may terminate or suspend your account and access to the Services immediately, without prior notice or liability, if you breach these Terms. You can stop using the Services at any time and delete your account from Profile → Delete account in the App, or by contacting us at [email protected].
The Services are provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis. We make no warranties, expressed or implied, and hereby disclaim all other warranties including, without limitation, implied warranties or conditions of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement of intellectual property.
We do not warrant that the Services will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free; that the AI or the pronunciation scores will be accurate or complete; or that using the Services will result in language fluency.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, in no event shall Simply Japanese, nor its directors, employees, partners, agents, suppliers, or affiliates, be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, including without limitation, loss of profits, data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from (i) your access to or use of or inability to access or use the Services; (ii) any content obtained from the Services; and (iii) unauthorized access, use or alteration of your transmissions or content.
If you downloaded the App from the Apple App Store, these Terms are between you and Simply Japanese, not Apple, and Apple's Standard License Agreement also applies. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the App.
We may modify or replace these Terms at any time. If a revision is material we will provide reasonable notice before the new terms take effect. By continuing to use the Services after any revisions become effective, you agree to be bound by the revised terms.
